How can PMs use Google AI Studio's Annotate Mode for UI prototyping in 2025?

As of October 2025, Product Managers can leverage Google AI Studio’s new Annotate Mode to streamline the UI prototyping process, directly turning visual design tweaks into production-ready code. This capability, introduced by Logan Kilpatrick (@OfficialLoganK), allows PMs to draw changes directly on the interface and then have Gemini apply those edits automatically, saving time and reducing the reliance on back-and-forth communication between design and development teams. Here’s how AI PMs can take advantage of this tool:

1. Open Google AI Studio and select the project you’re working on. Activate the Annotate Mode to begin your session. 2. Directly draw or highlight the UI areas you wish to change. This visual input can include layout adjustments, color corrections, button placements, and other interface modifications. 3. Once the annotations are complete, allow Gemini to process the changes. The tool interprets your sketches and automatically generates the corresponding code modifications, reducing manual error and ensuring consistency. 4. Review the updated code and perform in-app testing to confirm that the changes align with your design intent. If necessary, refine the annotations and iterate until the results meet the desired standards. 5. Share the revised prototype with your design and development teams for additional feedback and further iterations.

This end-to-end process not only speeds up UI prototyping but also improves collaboration among cross-functional teams. Early adopters in the AI PM community have reported significant reductions in design-to-code turnaround times—making it easier to iterate on user feedback quickly and efficiently. As detailed case studies are emerging, initial feedback has been very positive regarding the integration of design annotations directly into the development pipeline. This empowers PMs to focus more on strategy and user needs instead of getting bogged down by manual coding issues.
